Position Summary:
- Primarily in-centre service with the potential of providing school-based rehabilitation services on an as required basis
- Provide speech-language therapy with consultation and supervision from speech language pathologists
- Organize and maintain the department's test and materials cupboards, filing cabinets and equipment supplies
- Photocopy and makes therapy materials as required/or requested for individual clients.
- Participate as a member of the department, clinic and resource multidisciplinary. teams/committees to promote quality service for children
- Provide consultation, training and/or education to clients, their caregivers and schools and other agencies under supervision of staff speech language pathologists
Main Responsibilities:
- With direction/supervision from the primary therapist, execute treatment plans; provide service for clients, including standardized homework activities for family engagement
- Document treatment goals/plan and send a summary back to the appropriate therapist
- Provide care plans via one-on-one, group or school-based treatment blocks; support/make recommendations to parents, schools and other agencies
- Assume a client caseload referred and supervised by speech language pathology staff
- Participate in parent programmes, assist with videotaping
- Maintain knowledge of current practices/equipment in the field of communication assistive disorders
- Comply with relevant Centre statistical, clinical and administrative reporting requirements in a timely manner
- Assist in data collection for the Preschool Speech and Language Initiative
Qualifications:
- Post graduate diploma in Communication Disorders Assistant from accredited college
- Demonstrate ability in communication, organizational skills and problem solving
- Committed to working within a family-centred approach
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with FCCC staff and with other professionals in the community
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Must be willing and able to travel
- Familiarity with school health required
- Ability to read, write and converse in French is an asset.
