About this position

The Waltons Trust is a newly formed Canadian grantmaking organization that seeks to make a significant and deep impact across Canada over the next 12 years.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the design and implementation of a funding stream that will focus on mobility, social participation, and well-being among older adults. This role will appeal to a self-starter who is excited about launching innovative funding partnerships that will make a tangible difference in the lives of the fastest-growing age group in Canada.  The Director will oversee the Trust’s senior-focused grants portfolio and will help monitor the outcomes of our funding in this area.

This position will report to the Executive Director and work alongside, and collaborate closely with the Director of Granting, the Early Childhood Program Lead, and the Environment Program Lead.   

Job Responsibilities 

  • Identify issues and trends that affect the quality of life of Seniors, with a focus on mobility, transportation, social inclusion, and participation
  • Establish Waltons as a champion for improving the well-being of older adults
  • Build relationships, convene, and partner with, diverse stakeholders (including government, non-profits, and opinion leaders) around key Seniors’ related themes in order to identify and fund bold and innovative strategies
  • Guide portfolio development through scoping research, partnership development, program and proposal funding design, and due-diligence activities
  • Identify, engage, and assess potential granting partners and support the development of program ideas and funding requests
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to monitor the effectiveness and impact of our Seniors portfolio
  • Oversee the Seniors granting stream budget, including budget forecasting, development, monitoring, and reporting
  • Identify opportunities whereby the Trust can leverage its resources alongside other funding partners to have a multiplier effect
Qualifications 
  • Degree, or work experience, in a social or public health field with a focus on gerontology, seniors, and/or inclusion
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience related to Seniors programs and/or policy interventions
  • Experience designing and implementing funding interventions, including monitoring and impact measurement frameworks
  • Strong understanding of key issues, innovations, challenges, and trends in the Seniors field across Canada and/or globally
  • Familiarity with the organizations and government policies relevant to Seniors in Canada and/or around the world 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diagnostic and analytic work, as well as project design, partner identification, and implementation
  • Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects or programs around complex systems issues and shared outcomes
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents using a clear, plain-language approach
