About this position

As part of the DWF team, the Development Assistant will support the implementation of the annual fundraising plan which includes individual donations, major gifts, corporate donations, and DWF fundraising projects and events.

Reporting to the Development Associate, the Development Assistant will be responsible for supporting all fundraising initiatives for DWF.

The position is work from home with some meetings in Ohsweken and Toronto.


  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in fundraising or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience
  • Must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational/time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, define measurable objectives, outcomes and meet timelines
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of donor database systems or equivalent CRM; knowledge of eTapestry is an asset
  • Operate in a manner consistent with ethical fundraising and privacy principles
  • An ability to prioritize and handle multiple concurrent tasks in a highly effective manner
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and Communities is preferred and knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions is preferred
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, internet and general office equipment
  • Current Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening is required


  • Oversee the administration and management of CRM database and donor mailing list
  • Maintain both digital and physical donor and partner records
  • Update internal moves management systems to support the Development Associate and CEO in moving annual, corporate, and major gift donors and prospects through the fundraising cycle
  • Tracks and prepares correspondence for pledge reminders, invoices, tax receipts, and thank you letters
  • Develop communication materials for individual and monthly donors including the monthly newsletter and ensure communication strategies between departments are effective and open
  • Support the development of tailored proposals, reports, donor agreements and communication strategies to ensure a high level of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Support the identification and research corporate, public, private, community and individual prospects for the organization’s fundraising priorities
  • Provide administrative support including mail-out support, report updates, and other duties as assigned
  • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt to online fundraising strategies as necessary
  • Participate as a representative of the Downie Wenjack Fund at events within the community
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
