The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a Senior Manager, Major Giving in the Philanthropy department. Reporting to the Director, Major Giving and Campaigns, the incumbent will work as a member of the national Philanthropy team and supports the development and management of the Major Giving program in British Columbia as well as leading a team of direct reports. This position will also build relationships with key stakeholders and secure philanthropic commitments from a portfolio of individual and family foundation donors at the $10,000 and greater gift level.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of individuals and family foundation donors.
  • Demonstrates a high level of personal contact with major gift donors.
  • Cultivates relationships and moves donors through all stages of the donor cycle and creates individual donor plans and associated strategies.
  • Supports senior leadership, executives and volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors.
  • Works closely with Prospect Research and Major Giving team to identify prospects through activities such as database mining and prospect identification.
  • Works collaboratively with Philanthropy team to identify and determine leadership potential of prospective volunteers.
  • Supports the recognition of volunteers in collaboration with Philanthropy team in alignment with Volunteer Resources guidelines.
  • Supports the development and management of a high-performance team of Major Giving staff.
  • Provides guidance, coaching and oversight in the area of donor/prospect strategy and major gift solicitations.
  • Oversees Major Giving staff activity to ensure revenue targets are met.
  • Provides ongoing feedback, conducts performance reviews in conjunction with Major Giving leadership, and supports professional development of Major Giving staff.
  • Contributes to the development of provincial Major Giving revenue and expense budgets by conducting analysis and forecasting.
  • Develops annual business plans in collaboration with Major Giving leadership to meet revenue targets for Major Giving activity in British Columbia.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of Major Giving activity including regular monthly and quarterly reporting of key activity and financial indicators.
  • Manages communications with team and assigned donors during times of disasters to share information and gain support.
 
Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for this job include a university degree or college diploma in business administration, marketing or fundraising management, seven (7) or more years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Knowledge:
A strong background in community and relationship/partnership development and proven track record of delivering fundraising results.

  • A strategic and creative thinker who works proactively, and can manage competing priorities

  • High level proficiency with all Microsoft Office Suite programs

Working Conditions
  • Will be required to work non-traditional hours to execute events and meet the needs of donors, partners and volunteers, and during times of a disaster response and/or appeal.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.
  • This position requires a successful Canadian criminal record check, a vulnerable sector check, and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
