Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director (Internal/External Posting)

Sasamat Outdoor Centre, a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC), is seeking a creative, goal oriented individual to join our full-time team as Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven record of planning, developing and delivering high quality camping experiences for children, youth and families, and the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers and the general public.

Sasamat Outdoor Centre, a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC), is seeking a creative, goal oriented individual to join our full-time team as Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven record of planning, developing and delivering high quality camping experiences for children, youth and families, and the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers and the general public.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director will be responsible for four key areas, with some of the duties listed as follows (a full Job Description is available upon request):

Program Management and Development

  • Direct, plan, organize, implement, monitor and evaluate the delivery of all summer camp programs and activities
  • Develop and prepare funding proposals for programs and identify new funding opportunities
  • Plan, administer, monitor and control program budgets

Human Resource Management

  • Plan and deliver a comprehensive onsite staff training program o
  • Establish and implement an HR plan including recruitment, retention and performance management 
  • Internal and External Relationship o Represent Sasamat Outdoor Centre and ANHBC on internal committees and in the community
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Neighbourhood Houses and other community organizations
  • Communicate with campers, parents, teachers and community groups

Marketing and Communication

  • Document and highlight programs and activities through gathering stories and pictures o Promote and market programs through media and community events

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of three years of recent camp experience in a management role
  • Extensive knowledge of the organized camping industry and the requirements for delivery of high-quality resident and day camp programs, and outdoor education programs for schools and community groups
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and support culturally competent programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership ability to guide and motivate staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written English language skills; second language considered an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and databases
  • WCB First Aid Level 1; WCB First Aid Level 2 an asset
  • Class 4 driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Certification in specific recreational activities (i.e. RCABC advanced canoeing, ACCT challenge course) an asset

Terms of Employment: Regular full-time position, 35 hours per week, ANHBC wage grid, Band 11
