Salary: $52,590/year
FTE Status: 1.0 (37.5 hours/week)
Duration of Position: Permanent
Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary health care services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as health promotion programming, education, training and research to improve the health and well being of Toronto’s diverse communities. We are currently seeking a Community Health Promoter to work 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week) to join our Community Programming team.

The Community Health Promoter assesses community health needs and develops, implements, and evaluates health promotion programming for youth provided by Planned Parenthood Toronto.
responsibilities
- Through community consultations and needs assessments, work with diverse youth communities to identify emerging needs and trends with respect to their sexual health
- Work with community members and agencies to develop strategies to address sexual health issues and needs for diverse youth communities
- Work in collaboration with community agencies to develop a range of health promotion activities for youth including sexual health and healthier relationships workshops, groups, and projects
- Develop and conduct program evaluation
- Coordinate all components of sexual health and healthier relationships education for youth communities including: promotion and outreach; intake and booking; preparation and facilitation; module development; evaluation
- Liaise with community partners to build and maintain positive community relationships
- Act as a resource on sexual health issues for staff and externally with agencies
- Support advocacy related to community health needs, including participating in community forums and networks
- Support the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion resources
- Participate in the implementation of PPT’s volunteer training
- Maintain statistics and prepare narrative and statistical reports as directed
qualifications
- University or college degree in social services, health or education or 5 years equivalent experience
- Three to five years health promotion experience in a community setting
- Experience and commitment to working with youth from diverse communities from an anti-discrimination/anti-oppression perspective
- Experience working with newcomer youth an asset
- Experience networking and working collaboratively with local agencies and community groups
- Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops
- Knowledge of sexual health issues for youth
- Commitment to pro-choice philosophy
- Demonstrated commitment to equity goals and principles, sexual and reproductive rights, youth positivity, and sex positivity
- Ability to work with an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ positive, culturally competent, feminist, sex work positive, and anti-carceral lens from a trauma informed practice framework
- Commitment to and experience with working from a community development perspective
- Commitment to working cooperatively in a community-based setting as part of an inter-disciplinary team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment
- Available to work evenings and weekends as required
